This website is a visual record of the COSMIX (Colorado Springs Metro Interstate Expansion) project occurring in (surprise) Colorado Springs, Colorado. It started in the Summer of 2005 and is anticipated to finish in late 2007.

Basically, the project consists of reconstructing 12 miles of Interstate 25 from Circle Drive/Lake Avenue (Exit 138) to North Academy Boulevard (Exit 150). Along the way, two interchanges have to be completely redone. First, the interchanges of N. Nevada Ave., Corporate Centre Dr., and Rockrimmon Blvd. will be combined into one. Second, the Bijou St. bridges over both the interstate and the adjoining Monument Creek and railroad tracks are to be rebuilt. A few other bridges will have to be either rebuilt or retrofitted to accomodate the expansion. More detailed information can be found on the COSMIX Project Website.

Boom

Taken Friday, November 10, 2006. While installing new girders, a crane collapsed. I got pics of the aftermath if you're so inclined.

Much of the southern sections of the interstate (MM 138 to MM 140.5) and a stretch in the middle (MM 142 to MM 145) are already either 3 lanes or can easily be restriped for three lanes. From what I can tell (on 5/10/05), COSMIX won't be doing much with these sections, save for restriping or resurfacing. The rest of the interstate in the project zone should see significant changes.

Due to the size of this project and , hopefully, the number of pictures I plan on having, I've wrestled with how to lay out the site. I've decided to give you, the reader, the option on how to proceed. (Don't say I don't do anything for ya!) Just click on the links to the left for site navigation.

The updates to this page can be found a few ways. First, you can check the Updates box to the right of this text. Second, you can click on the word "Updates" in that box (or here). Third, you can browse all of the pages listed on the left. All updated pictures have a grey background. You could also not care about the updates and not come back to this site, but I wouldn't recommend that at all.

Clicking on pictures will pop up a new window. You may want to adjust your pop-up blocker to accomodate user-driven popups. Additionally, this site utilizes JavaScript for the popup windows, so I hope you have JavaScript enabled on your system! FYI: Older thumbnails on this site may seem distorted. This site went through a redesign and I haven't been able to update all of the pictures yet to fit in the new style. Clicking on the pic will give you a full undistorted shot.

This site utilizes a lot of CSS code in the layout. If you are using an older browser to hit this site, it may not look perfect to you. I highly recommend upgrading your web browser to the latest and greatest versions of Firefox (my personal preference), Internet Explorer, Opera, or your browser of choice. Not only will this site look the best, quite a few other sites will display correctly.
