Exit 144 - Fontanero Street  aerial picture

This exit, along with the Uintah St. exit, were recently rehabbed. I-25 is currently striped as 2 lanes plus an auxillary lane in each direction. In order to make this section of the I fully three lanes in each direction, the entrance and exit ramp areas need to be restriped and the overhead signs need to be shifted. 'Nuff said. Currently, this exit is underused. It serves a city maintenance facility to the east and a four block wide residential area to the west. Long-range plans call for this exit to play an important role however. To the west, Centennial Boulevard is slated to be lengthened to this exit. This will help take some of the load off the Fillmore and Garden of the Gods exits. To the east, the city's pipe dream is to connect Constitution Avenue to here to help alleviate the lack of a good east-west corridor. Unfortunately, NIMBYers are winning that fight.
