Exit 146 - Garden of the Gods Road aerial picture
This interchange was completely redone back in the mid to late 80's. Even then, the engineers were smart enough to make an interchange that is easy to expand. All that needs to happen here is to pave the median and install a Jersey barrier. (And hopefully a new coat of paint on the bridge...) Interesting side note: this is Colorado Springs's first and only SPUI. To make it easier on the drivers, green lights were imbedded in the pavement which would light up to guide left-turning drivers. Unfortunately, they didn't work much past the first snowstorm and were removed in a resurfacing project in 2004.

Current update
- 9/13/06
Just to keep us awake, crews have moved the northbound lanes to the southbound side of the GoG bridge now.
- 9/13/06
The odd thing here is that the lanes still shift right like they used to before the shift. You are being pulled right, bounce over a asphalt dropoff, then curve hard to the left. G-Forces rule!
- 9/13/06
This is still a big bump. I actually had some of my coffee spill out of the cup that was in the cup holder.
- 9/13/06
At about the point where the merging traffic merges, we zig back over to the original alignment.
- 9/13/06
Back onto the original alignment. I have no idea why the colors are so rich in this pic.
- 8/30/06
This guy is actually legitamitely leaning: he's stablizing the light pole to assist it's reinstallation.
- 8/30/06
The cable-rail guardrail now stretches all the way from Fillmore to Garden of the Gods.
- 8/30/06
A shot of the end of the cable-stay guardrail.
- 8/30/06
The old northbound onramp is gone now.
- 8/30/06
Southbound traffic is now on the new cement: this demonstrates how close the interstate traffic gets to Rusina Road now.
- 8/30/06
Coming up on the Garden of the Gods interchange from southbound 25.
- 8/30/06
This is also where the detour for the Rockrimmon exit is. It's not marked for this detour until you are finished taking the Rusina detour. Fine for natives, but I'd hate to be new and trying to find my way around right now.
- 8/30/06
This picture doesn't give the size of this dropoff justice. It feels like you're dropping about a foot when you hit this.
- 8/30/06
A shot of the new cable-stay guardrail from the southbond lanes.
- 8/30/06
The northbound traffic has been placed onto the former southbound bridge.
- 8/30/06
A little tidying up work being completed just south of Garden of the Gods.
- 8/30/06
More streetlight installation taking place in the northbound lanes.
- 8/28/06
We see that the southbound traffic is now on the new cement roadbed.
- 8/28/06
Advertising the lane shift. This message alternated with warnings that Rockrimmon and Nevada are closed.
- 8/28/06
Crews are starting to pave the northbound lanes in cement now.
- 8/23/06
Merging northbound traffic is finally placed on the new cement. The merge point has been moved about 750 feet up the road.
- 8/23/06
Here is where the merge used to be...
- 8/23/06
... and here's where the merge point is now.
- 8/17/06
One more shot up the northbound onramp. Traffic is scheduled to be placed on the new roadway soon.
- 8/17/06
In order to completely reconstruct the southbound offramp, crews rerouted traffic onto Rusina Road, making it one-way headed south. Northbound Rusina traffic has a detour now. Since this only allows for westbound movements, traffic wanting to head east is told to exit at Nevada.
- 8/17/06
There's not a lot left of the southbound offramp now.
- 8/17/06
Here's where northbound traffic used to be able to jump onto Rusina. With Rusina currently being used as the offramp for 25, you can't turn here for now. That's what the blurry sign in front says.
- 8/17/06
Another shot of the offramp reconstruction.
- 8/17/06
Two of three detour signs at this intersection. The other one is for Rockrimmon.
- 8/17/06
Where Rusina becomes one way. This has had a very serious impact on the businesses along Rusina.
- 8/17/06
The new cement is just about ready to take traffic.
- 8/17/06
A gap in the guardrail so construction traffic can access this part of the I.
- 8/17/06
The VMS is warning that exiting traffic can only access westbound Garden of the Gods. To access eastbound GoG, one must go up to the Fillmore exit and double back.
- 8/17/06
The temporary jump of the GoG exit onto Rusina means the exit is moved north a few hundred feet.
- 8/17/06
The temporary exit sign for southbound 25 at Garden of the Gods. Tell you one thing: the COSMIX crews aren't going to win any awards for pretty signage.
- 8/17/06
Cement paver is in place to finish the new road from the SB exit to the GoG bridge.
Recent updates
- 05/23/06
This sign greets pedestrians walking on the north side of the road. There's one at the next major intersection on both sides of the I.
- 05/23/06
Since the Rockrimmon exit is closed from now until mid-summer, traffic wanting that exit has to exit here, too.
- 03/30/06
Hay! Made you look! Hehe.
- 03/23/06
Work continues on the new storm drains.
- 03/23/06
The SB GOG exit still bounces over the original SB lanes. Somebody prop that sign up, please!
- 03/23/06
Now on Rusina (the frontage road). Construction hasn't really impacted this road yet, save for the barrels.
- 03/23/06
Chest-deep in a hole.
- 03/23/06
All the original fencing through here is gone. That pole holds a traffic counting device. Prolly not too useful now.

"So a guy falls into a hole, see?" ... R.I.P. John Spencer.
- 02/23/06
The SB exit still bounces over the original rut-filled lanes.

A closeup of the new right turn lane signals on the SB offramp. These don't line up with the current offramp.

Electricians hard at work.
- 02/23/06
That's a tall pile of mulched asphalt! That's the exit advisory speed limit sign, BTW.
- 02/23/06
The old lanes are just piles of debris now.
- 02/07/06
Just after the bridge headed southbound. Yup, we're on the NB side of the bridge now.
- 02/07/06
NB lanes have nothing in the median anymore. This is also a shot of where the SB lanes are now.
- 01/24/06
Another warning that the N. Nevada exit is closed temporarily. What is that font, anyway?
- 01/24/06
Cleaning the crash barriers. Ooohhh, shiny!
- 01/24/06
The VMS north of the exit is also being used to warn motorists. Looks like someone found the "bold" setting.
- 01/16/06
New guardrails are installed on the NB onramp.
- 01/16/06
The new cement is about to receive traffic. The shift is scheduled for sometime this week.

Looking up the NB onramp.
- 01/16/06
Here's the new SB offramp right turn lane signals, complete with a Big Brother device.
