Exit 148A - Bus 25 South/US 85 (unsigned)/N. Nevada Avenue  aerial picture

Planned to be completely redone, this exit needs it. Northbound, the exit ramp is a tight >60 degree turn. Southbound, the exit is on the left. Because of the bluffs to the north of this exit, the only easy way to get from Woodmen to points south is to jump on the I, weave to the left lane, and exit all in about ¾ of a mile. It gets messy.

The NB and SB lanes split at this point. There is no access to SB 25 from NB Nevada.

The NB Nevada lanes become the onramp to NB 25. You're usually moving faster than the traffic flow when you merge.

Current update

    9/13/06

Climbing to go over the temporary Nevada exit bridge on northbound 25. We see the retaining walls going up. These will hold the new mainline 25 when complete.

  • 09130622
    9/13/06

Looking northwest at the new retaining walls. We're right over where Nevada will intersect the interstate, and the road we see curving off in the distance is the Corporate Centre extension.

  • 09130623
    9/13/06

Coming around the bend towards the north Nevada merge while headed northbound. There's a lot of activity in the median today.

  • 09130624
    9/13/06

Now for the dumbest thing COSMIX could have done. Crews have shifted the lanes to the right and eliminated the continuous lane between Nevada and Woodmen. The resulting backups often start at Fillmore: during rush hours, the backup makes it to Bijou. Don't believe me? Check out the current video drive-through on my Southbound page.

  • 09130625
    9/13/06

See? No extra lane. This is a mess through here.

  • 09130643

    Approaching the Nevada/Corp Centre/Rockrimmon complex.

  • 09130645

Approaching the temporary Nevada exit for southbound 25.

  • 09130646
    9/13/06

Pillars and retaining walls are sprouting up around the temporary exit for Nevada.

  • 09130647
    9/13/06

Another shot of the temporary Nevada exit.

  • 09130648
    9/13/06

At the temporary exit. I love how the "Exit 148" is in small text on the exit sign. (Can't call it a gore point sign right now, can we?)

  • 09130649
    9/13/06

Since construction trucks cross this exit ramp quite often, a flagger is on hand to assist in preventing funky accidents.

  • 09130650
    9/13/06

Looking down the temporary exit. As the bridges and C/D roads continue to get built, this scene will change even more.

  • 09130681
    9/13/06

Coming up on 25 while heading north on Nevada.

  • 09130682
    9/13/06

Bold print warning that backups are coming up very, very soon.

  • 09130683
    9/13/06

Since everyone is used to having a lane to satisfactorily speed up ane merge like civilized human beings, we all have to be reminded that that lane is no more.

  • 09130684
    9/13/06

Looking over the Nevada construction site. We see the temporary bridge for the offramp and the former offramp bridge.

  • 09130685
    9/13/06

Construction vehicles still utilize the underpass.

  • 09070602
    9/7/06

The northbound lanes are back on the original alignment, and the new Nevada exit for southbound traffic is open for business.

  • 09070603
    9/7/06

Working at demolishing the large chunks of asphalt that used to be the southbound lanes of I-25.

  • 09070604
    9/7/06

Look closely: do you see the guy laying down on this?

  • 08300639
    8/30/06

Approaching where the southbound offramp to Nevada used to be.

  • 08300641
    8/30/06

The left-facing streetlight on the left is where the Nevada exit used to be.

  • 08300643
    8/30/06

The reason for the northbound traffic shift is so that crews can install a temporary bridge for the southbound Nevada exit. Soon, traffic exiting onto Nevada will turn off the C/D road in the exact spot where Nevada Avenue will intersect it.

  • 08280620
    8/28/06

Those pillars will form the bridge abutments for mainline 25 over Nevada Avenue.

  • 08280621
    8/28/06

Another shot of the Nevada work.

  • 08280622
    8/28/06

Here's the reason why the northbound traffic is in the southbound lanes currently. This is going to be a temporary bridge over a temporary southbound Nevada exit.

  • 08280623
    8/28/06

Approaching the former southbound Nevada exit. The southbound traffic is all backed up because this is the first day that traffic has been on the new C/D road, so everybody's confused.

  • 08280624
    8/28/06

A look at the construction in the median.

  • 08280625
    8/28/06

At the former southbound Nevada Avenue exit. Obviously, this exit isn't open anymore.

  • 08280630
    8/28/06

About to cross over back to the original northbound lanes.

  • 08280633
    8/28/06

Aahhh, the beauty of design-build construction projects. This change was brought out to the crews so fast they didn't have the time to move all of the southbound signage once the switch occurred.

  • 08280635
    8/28/06

And we're back to our original alignment, at least in the northbound lanes.

  • 08280638
    8/28/06

A warning for the crews is spray-painted onto the barrier by someone with a lot better handwriting than the graffiti artists.

  • 08170605
    8/17/06

Work continues in the median of I-25.

  • 08170606
    8/17/06

Looks like smoothing over the whole median is what's planned right now.

  • 08170607
    8/17/06

Look very closely at the culvert: there's a bobcat in there that's working! How'd they get that in there?

  • 08170608
    8/17/06

Anyone need a large pile of asphalt?

  • 08170624
    8/17/06

Looking at the soon-to-be intersection and northern end of Nevada Ave. The girders seen here will be the bridge abutments for mainline 25.
