Exit 149 - Woodmen Road  aerial picture

After 4 (!) years, this interchange's reconstruction came to a close late in 2004. The original contractor went bankrupt in the middle of the project. CDOT hired another contractor to finish. It's interesting seeing the way they widened the lanes for future expansion. It looks awkward now, but I'm supposing that once COSMIX is done with it, it'll all be smooth through here again. I'm also hoping that the COSMIX project will fix a lot of the little things missed by the previoius contractors. (Exit tabs on BGS's? We don't need no stinkin' Exit tabs!)

  • Woodmen oops
    Original shot

Alright, who forgot the greenout? We actually have ½ mile to the exit.

  • Woodmen wide ROW
    Original shot

"It's just a jump to the right!" The lanes shift here. The bridges are ready for the third lane also.

  • Stretched power lines
    Original shot

Looking northbound. Interesting way to handle the power lines and street lights under them.

Isn't the exit tab supposed to be on the right for right exits?

  • Woodmen Merge
    Original shot

After the northbound merge. The interstate travels through a small cut in the hill north of Woodmen.

  • Towards Woodmen
    Original shot

Southbound about ½ mile away from Woodmen. Note the exit sign. Oops!

  • Towards Woodmen 2
    Original shot

Southbound approaching Woodmen. The median widens substantially for this interchange then narrows again.

  • After Woodmen Rd
    Original shot

Woodmen's bridges are 3-lanes, but between the bridges the cement wasn't wide enough for the left shoulder.

  • Approachin Nevada
    Original shot

Another oops from the Woodmen reconstruction. Yes, the assumption that Nevada is exit 148A is correct.

  • EB Woodmen

Eastbound on Woodmen approaching I-25. The first intersection is Corporate Centre Drive.

This sign is kinda lying right now, but the exit only arrow is doing a good job of pointing at some seriously beaten up road.

  • 09130627
    9/13/06

The return of the fugly dancing arrow sign! And it's only advertising the natural curve in the road. Huh.

  • 09130628
    9/13/06

Coming up on the Woodmen exit. At least crews made sure to cover the rightmost arrow in this sign.

  • 09130629
    9/13/06

Just over the Woodmen overpass headed north. Crews are almost ready to pour cement in the median now.

  • 09130630
    9/13/06

"Hello? Is anyone there? I'm calling from the middle of a construction site!"

  • 09130631
    9/13/06

Coming up on the recently widened northbound area north of Woodmen. It's been rotomilled and is waiting final paving.

  • 09130632
    9/13/06

The old asphalt didn't leave without a fight: the size of the potholes that formed through here was intimidatitng small delivery vans.

  • 09130638
    9/13/06

Coming up on Woodmen from the north, we see a big chunk of land that's been removed to accomodate an additional southbound lane.

  • 09130639
    9/13/06

This worker looks to be praying to the gods of road work everywhere!

  • 09130640
    9/13/06

Just after Woodmen heading south. The dust is from a construction truck that's not fully on the pavement.

  • 09130641
    9/13/06

At the squeeze point. We can see that the median is just about ready for cement here, too.

  • 09130642
    9/13/06

This sign was covered when the N. Nevada exit was closed for a bit. Crews forgot to uncover it until a few days back even though the exit was reopened.

  • 09130686

Another shot of how bad the potholes got. This was one continuous deep hole up until the night before this pic was shot.

  • 08300621
    8/30/06

Fencing is about to be installed along the interstate just south of the Woodmen interchange.

  • 08300624
    8/30/06

Coming up on the widening zone north of Woodmen. Crews are still working on drainage systems in the median.

  • 08300625
    8/30/06

The northbound widening has essentially been completed. There's even guardrails now!

  • 08300629
    8/30/06

A warning about all the crew activity in the area.

  • 08300630
    8/30/06

Planning what they're going to do for lunch?

  • 08300631
    8/30/06

The crews the sign board a few pics back was warning us about.

  • 08300632
    8/30/06

Removing guardrail from the northbound lanes.

  • 08300633
    8/30/06

    More guardrail removal.

  • 08300634
    8/30/06

The southbound lanes have been shifted onto the new cement. The woodmen onramp's accel lane is now exceptionally short, so there's always a backup here now, usually extending back to Academy Blvd.

  • 08300635
    8/30/06

Where we were vs. where we are now.

  • 08300636
    8/30/06

The shift happened only about a day prior to this pic: crews are wasting no time clearing the old asphalt.

  • 08300637
    8/30/06

Since the northbound traffic is currently using the old southbound lanes, there's no chance to have the left exit to Nevada open right now.

  • 08300638
    8/30/06

As I said, crews are not wasting any time on clearing the old roadway.

  • 08230637
    8/23/06

Heading north towards Woodmen, we see that the inside lane is now paved in cement to match the rest of the road.

  • 08230638
    8/23/06

Both interior lanes between the creek and Woodmen are now in cement. The backup seen here in the southbound lanes is a normal.

  • 08230639
    8/23/06

Just after the northbound merge, we see that the grading for the wider roadbed has been completed.

  • 08230640
    8/23/06

A little further along than the last pic.

  • 08170609
    8/17/06

The inner lanes (which were paved with asphalt originally) are now ready to be paved in cement as to match the rest of the pavement through here.

  • 08170610
    8/17/06

The "W199.5" label is left over from the TREX project in Denver: crews painted the mile markers on the barriers.

  • 08170611
    8/17/06

This SUV decided it would be fun to bounce off a semi and the cement barriers at 4:00pm. The resulting backup crippled the northern part of this city.

  • 08170612
    8/17/06

While I don't know the exact reason for the accident, I'm betting speed was an issue since everyone goes 60 in the area marked 45.

  • 08170613
    8/17/06

Just after the Woodmen merge, we see work continuing on the widening of the I.

  • 08170614
    8/17/06

This warning was for mowers ahead, not COSMIX crews.

  • 08170615
    8/17/06

Big chunks of the hill are being taken out to accomodate the extra lane through here.

  • 08170616
    8/17/06

Just sitting waiting for a turn arrow, I thought I'd try to take a pic utilizing the driver's side mirror. Worked pretty well, eh?

Since the speed limit drops to 45 about 1/2 mile back, crews had to cover this sign--poorly. The entire sign was gone two days after this shot was taken.

  • 03230620
    03/23/06

And we get a sign, too! Also note the VMS in the background: the Nevada exit is very tight now.

The Corp Centre exit sign is finally covered over. The exit was closed for over a week before this happened.

  • 02230611

After about 2 weeks of its close, we finally get signs saying the Corp. Centre exit is closed.

I'm betting that VMS will be gone shortly.

Just a warning to all the drivers here: the speed limit SB drops at Woodmen officially now.

COSMIX should have been called Clusterfu_k. This is at 2:00 pm. It's like this until Fillmore and pretty much all day.

COSMIX has reched the Woodmen interchange now. Lanes shift to the left southbound.
