r-dub's pic of the day
I take pictures. Lots of 'em. I have for some time. Because of my random pic overload, I have decided to create a pic of the day section of my site. Look here for updates into the realm of r-dub. Most of the pics will be concerning roads, but I reserve the right to randomly insert scenic or other random pictures. Don't worry, there will be nothing that you can't view at work...
Today's Picture
Just a reminder of what's to come around here. This was taken mid-February 2006 just after a snowstorm. All I remember was that it was DAMN COLD that day. This is the shot of Pikes Peak you see while heading west on US 24 out of the city.
previous pics of the day.
When crews needed to expand the water main along south Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, the easiest way was to place the main on the road.
Hacking and slashing their way to a (very)high-end enclave of homes, developers didn't care too much about the environment here.
I have never seen this type of cones before in my life. I'm wondering if Colorado has so many construction projects going on that crews are having a cone shortage and are having to improvise...
This segment of stupidity brought to you by Gart Sports, whose name recently was retired in a merger. They had to throw away their signs somehow, and I guess disassembling them was out of the question.
Aaahhh, redhead on a hog with a Taz strapped to the back seat in a way that Taz's tongue is sticking out and waving at you as she goes by. Does it really get any better than that?
When mutants mate with road signs, you get something quite similar to this. He should have a doctor check out that bend. Looks painful.
Welcome to Colorado Springs, where we place our welcome signs so low people can skid out on it! This is seen on the US 85/Nevada Avenue entrance to the city.
Older gore point sign spotted on the southbound offramp to Cimmaron Street from I-25. Look closely, and you can even tell where the bolts holding the new white text and borders are. And it looks like this was exit 60 before mile-based numbering happened here.
AIEEEE! The dreaded Transport Lite (™Comrade Yamamoto), aka Clearview, aka CrapTastic, has infiltrated Colorado Springs. All new street signs are going up with the dreaded font. Ugh.
Okay, how many people do you think actually know what the CRS number means? Wouldn't it be easier to say "It's against the law"?
Here's a rarer and rarer sight: the Sinclair Dinosaurs. This is at a Sinclair station (natch) at the interchange of US 24 and Bus US 24 just east of Manitou Springs. Is it me or is the closer one eyeing it's dinner? :)
Remember kids, when backing up, make sure there's not someone else backing up at the same time. This clustered this parking lot for almost 45 minutes for no real discernable reason.
Smile! You're on Candid Camera! This lone officer was relaying car types and speeds to about 8 different motorcycle cops hiding behind the wall. This is a norm in COS, and the drivers all complain about it. Maybe if they weren't doing 70 in a 55...
Awww, how cute. We're still using cement-filled tires for our sign supports. Isn't it nice to see that we're all grown up out here?
Alright, kids, you all know the words to AC/DC's If You Want Blood (You Got It): "If you want blood, you got it / If you want blood, you got it / Blood on the streets / Blood on the rocks / Blood in the gutter / Every last drop / You want blood, you got it"
Academy Boulevard in all it's driveway'ed glory. Only masocists drive Academy from one end to another. (15 miles, 45 minutes or more) I've done it many, many times.
Wow, we're so nice when it comes to policing DUI's here! If it were up to me, I'd make this say "Drive Sober, Damnit!"
The other part of the sign says "Go to Jail." I wonder how many people slowed down to the speed limit when they saw this. This VMS actually was talking about your Blood Alcohol Content, not your speed.
Approaching some line painting exercises. Would have been nice if there was any warning to this mess.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with any of the orginizations listed within this site. I'm just a bored roadgeek with way too much time on his hands. All of the picts in this page are mine and mine alone unless otherwise noted. Remember, kids: stealing is bad, mmmm-k? I get quite pissy if things are taken without telling me. I don't like to be pissy. You won't like it either. If you want to link to this page, that's fine. Please shoot me an email beforehand so I can link to your page as well. K? Thanks. --Ryan
