Roadtrippin' Colorado Style

birthday 3-1 trip

Another year has passed in the life of r-dub. Guess it's time to celebrate with another road trip. I've got a hankerin' for some pass hopping. Let's see where these roads will take me this time, shall we?

Up, up, and away!

Still rolling right along. We just left Woodland Park on the way to points west.

Typical scene from Woodland Park to Divide on US24/SH 67.

FINALLY! Three different roadtrips and multiple side trips later, I finally get a good picture of this sign. I think I've already made all the Game Crossing jokes now, though. Damn.

At the turnoff of southbound 67. We've seen this intersection go through some changes.

Now that all the gambling traffic is gone, we get back to a lesser-improved 24.

My, what big, round rocks you have. Good thing they aren't covered in moss. That's another joke in and of itself.

Road cuts are the norm through here.

Just after Florissant, we see how long it is to any town of significance.

Hmmm. Better slow down. The officers out here don't have much else to do.

Abandoned bridge on an old alignment off the port bow!

More brownout for the underwear. I can't for the life of me remember what this sign used to say.

The road's pretty old through here but still in really good shape.

Approaching the top of Wilkerson Pass one more time.

See? Told you.

Looking west. I thought we were in the mountains?!?

May not be in the mountains per se, but at least we're in the Land of Many Uses.

Straight as an arrow with a 65mph speed limit. Must..... not.... speed!!!!!!

Civilization in the form of Hartsel, CO.

Meeting up with SH 9. You remember SH 9, right? We've traveled it recently.

Fishing in a very infitesmial South Platte River. Is that an old alignment in the background?

This stretch of 24 still barely carries any traffic. And it's still marked at 65. STILL... MUST... NOT... SPEED!

Approaching Antonito Junction, where US 24 joins up with US 285 for a spell.

A bucket truck mating ritual!

Still not that big of a fan of the narrow font and squished shield.

Climbing Trout Creek Pass.

At the top of Trout Creek Pass lies the intersection intersection.

I tried to get this pict on the Jonesin' 1 trip, but didn't have any luck.

A new culvert has been installed since our last trip this way.

Every time I'm here I have to get this picture.

This one, too. What can I say? I like to mix scenery and roads.

Aahhh, Mount Princeton, my old friend.

The brown sign on the right is welcoming us to Chaffee County.

Through one of many rock cuts on 285/24.

Come (heh, heh) to Buena Vista to recreate!

Another shot of a cool old bridge. Gut feeling says this bridge has only a few years left before it's replaced.

Odd sign greets us just before the split of 285 and 24.

We continued on 24 and are now in downtown Buena Vista. Let's start getting new picts now, eh? Cottonwood Pass beckons.

This used to be SH 306 for quite some time. It was decommissioned in the late 80's.

Looks like we're heading straight towards that valley opening.

Old-skool short bus.

We're out of Buena Vista proper now.
