Another year has passed in the life of r-dub. Guess it's time to celebrate with another road trip. I've got a hankerin' for some pass hopping. Let's see where these roads will take me this time, shall we?
We're just about ready to leave the scenicness of Taylor Reservoir behind. Let's continue westwards.
Passing the Taylor Reservoir dam now. I can't think of a better place to put a dam than at the mouth of a canyon, can you?
For those of you keeping track, we're still traveling on FR 742.
Fly fishermen love the Taylor River.
FR 742 alternates between narrow canyon and wide valley.
Here's a bridge rail style not usually seen in Colorado. Utah, yes; Colorado, no.
These cows know how to party! They brought their own strobe light and power source with them!
Another cattle guard. This one's needed, apparaently.
Starting to see a few more aspen trees in the mix now.
Sadly, this is not a turnoff to a seafood restaurant. I'm kinda hungry.
Yup. Love living in this state.
Guess the cows ordered something.
Even the Forest Service is getting into the cable-stay guardrail act.
At about this time, my phone rings. Scared the heck out of me! I have service here?!?
Campgrounds dot the side of the roadway.
Cool rock formation.
Another Utah-style bridge. It's a mormon conspiracy, I tell you!
Yup. This sign doesn't lie. Ahead of me, you can see the traffic jam I'm about to get into.
I can only think of one better way to spend the day than riding: roadtrippin'!
Random unmarked split. I decide on staying on the paved road.
Good thing I did, too.
I think this sign would be more effective if it was a little closer to the road.
Nice rides!
Interesting that this slope has no trees on it at all. Anybody pondering what I'm pondering? SLED HILL!
Approaching Almont. We've broken out of the canyon atmosphere again, too.
Almont is one of the many staging areas for whitewater rafting.
Downtown Almont consists of a few buildings and people walking down the middle of the road.
Better days this bridge has seen. The stop sign after the distance marks the END! of FR 742, too.
We've turned north on SH 135 now. Next stop, Crested Butte.
We've also picked up the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, which we will be on for quite some time.
135 rolls through alternating mountain scenes and valley scenes.
Rearing Judy? Only if she's really cute.
That pointy mountain we saw in the distance earlier is getting closer.
We start to see the beginnings of the next town.
Scenic, ain't it?
Our next destination comes into view.
Just about to enter...
... Crested Butte, elevation 8885 feet.
There's something you don't see everyday in a town square. The White Knight is unimpressed.
Uhmmm, you're doing it wrong.
Crested Butte is littered with these old street signs.
