Jonesin' for a roadtrip, take 1
So I'm sitting around my home on the night of August 22, and I decide I need to get out of the city. Badly. I decide that bright and early the next morning, or whenever I finally decide to wake up, that is, I'm going for a drive. I decide to go west, but that's about all I know. And, as a treat to all of you, I decided to bring my camera along. One photo log is now up and ready for your viewing pleasure. Many of these photos are sized for a 1024x768 resolution monitor. Those viewing this site at a lower resolution may have problems. You've been warned. Hope you enjoy tagging along on my Sanity Break 2005 tour!

By this time, the sun was pretty low in the western sky. The alternating light and shadows over the rest of this trip messed with my camera. These are the pictures I was able to get. The last pictures are from just before Denver.
Don't know why the move accidents sign has the flags on it. I guess accidents were not getting moved. That's not an unmarked trooper behind the sign. I checked. It's a car parked on the former US 6, now a frontage road.
This sign has been here forever it seems. But the work is just about to wrap up.
The I-70/US 40 interchange. Eastbound 40 silently multiplexes with 70 until about the Chief Hosa exit. It then silently leaves the interstate and runs along it on the north frontage road.
In Idaho Springs, CO 103 intersects the interstate. This is its northern terminus, too. You can drive to the top of Mount Evans on CO 5.
This is where US 6 exits the interstate. This is in a very tight Clear Creek Canyon, so I don't see the left exit being eliminated any time soon.
Just after the curve in the last pic, 70 climbs straight up Floyd Hill. Those grooves in the pavement were quite deep. They caught my tires once and made the car jerk to the left, much to the terror of the guy in my blind spot.
Coming up on the Genesse Park bridge. It's straight downhill to the city of Denver now, and the speed limits drop to accomodate that. Passenger cars still do about 70 down the grade, though.
From this point on, none of the pics I took were worth salvaging, so this is where I'm stopping the photo log. I followed 70 down to CO 470, took that around southwest Denver to I-25 and headed home. I hope you enjoyed tagging along with me as I wandered aimlessly through the mountains!
