Quick Denver Trippin'
I had a few hours to kill one day before heading to a friend's house for dinner, so I decided to check out the now-complete TREX Project in Denver. Of course, I had to take my camera along.
Heading North
OK, let's get going. Since I've documented I-25 in a few of my other trips, pics will be sparodic until we hit Denver.
A shabbily-covered up speed limit sign greets us on the way into Castle Rock. There's some construction afoot 'round here.
This sign and another one further back were positioned like this. Why do I think this could do some damage to a car?
One construction worker is trying to push over the barricade while another looks the other way. Worker vandals!
Crews preparing to remove this sign. The interstate is going to be widened to 6 lanes through here, and the sign is in the way.
Approaching the Surrey Ridge area south of Denver. The speed limit is 75 through here, and you'd best follow it. The cops love this stretch of concrete.
Nice! The TREX planners thought ahead and placed an Open/Full sign for the first light rail station before the exit. That's good thinkin' there.
The Lincoln Station of the light rail line. This is going to be the southern end of the line for a while.
This looks weird just ending like this, but I have a strange feeling there'll be buildings here shortly.
The TREX project sign is still hanging around. At the time of the pic, the road portion of TREX was complete, but the light rail segment was still under construction and testing.
The next pedestrian bridge we encounter is for the County Road station, which is just out of the picture on the left.
The shot of the newly widened interstate just before County Line Road. This used to be 3 lanes each direction.
The partial mileage signs are taped to the light posts through here. The full mile markers, however, are on the right sides of the roads.
Before TREX, this is where the speed limit used to drop to 55. It was a nice surprise for me to see that is not the case now.
At the Arapahoe Road/SH 88 interchange. Interesting thing on this segment: the median barrier is the original barrier. Where crews had to install lights or where the barrier was in bad shape, the barrier was replaced. I guess new design standards call for a higher barrier.
The light rail tracks are seen going over Arapahoe. The stretched pillar straddles the southbound offramp.
