Roadtrippin' Colorado Style

Quick Denver Trippin'

I had a few hours to kill one day before heading to a friend's house for dinner, so I decided to check out the now-complete TREX Project in Denver. Of course, I had to take my camera along.

Heading North

OK, let's get going. Since I've documented I-25 in a few of my other trips, pics will be sparodic until we hit Denver.

AAHHH! BIG MONKEY WAVING!

Check out the big load!

Quick pic in the middle of a sprinkle of another BUSTED! moment.

A shabbily-covered up speed limit sign greets us on the way into Castle Rock. There's some construction afoot 'round here.

This sign and another one further back were positioned like this. Why do I think this could do some damage to a car?

One construction worker is trying to push over the barricade while another looks the other way. Worker vandals!

Crews preparing to remove this sign. The interstate is going to be widened to 6 lanes through here, and the sign is in the way.

Another BUSTED! Moment, brought to you by the CSP.

Heh. This sign implies there's services to the left. Nope! Sucka!

Approaching the Surrey Ridge area south of Denver. The speed limit is 75 through here, and you'd best follow it. The cops love this stretch of concrete.

Nice! The TREX planners thought ahead and placed an Open/Full sign for the first light rail station before the exit. That's good thinkin' there.

At Lincoln Avenue, which is the southern exit of the Denver Metro Area.

The southern end of the light rail comes into view.

The Lincoln Station of the light rail line. This is going to be the southern end of the line for a while.

A look at the east end of the pedestrian bridge.

This looks weird just ending like this, but I have a strange feeling there'll be buildings here shortly.

Coming up on the C-470/E-470 interchange.

The TREX project sign is still hanging around. At the time of the pic, the road portion of TREX was complete, but the light rail segment was still under construction and testing.

The stack of C-470/E-470/I-25. The "Move It" sign will probably be moved to a LWS shortly.

The next pedestrian bridge we encounter is for the County Road station, which is just out of the picture on the left.

Yeah, that station.

This side leads the pedestrian to a large parking lot.

The shot of the newly widened interstate just before County Line Road. This used to be 3 lanes each direction.

The light rail lines fly over County Line.

BUSTED! Moment number... uhmmm... I've already lost count.

The partial mileage signs are taped to the light posts through here. The full mile markers, however, are on the right sides of the roads.

Coming up on the Dry Creek exit. No, that building isn't about to fall over.

Closer to the next pedestrian bridge.

Yeah, this one.

Before TREX, this is where the speed limit used to drop to 55. It was a nice surprise for me to see that is not the case now.

A good distance shot of the interstate approaching Arapahoe Road/SH 88.

At the Arapahoe Road/SH 88 interchange. Interesting thing on this segment: the median barrier is the original barrier. Where crews had to install lights or where the barrier was in bad shape, the barrier was replaced. I guess new design standards call for a higher barrier.

The light rail tracks are seen going over Arapahoe. The stretched pillar straddles the southbound offramp.

Just after Arapahoe.

Six lanes of happiness!

Approaching Orchard Road. The pedestrian bridge is hiding behind its older brother.

At the Orchard Road interchange.

More bridgeness for the light rail lines.

The entire stretch of the interstate has VMS's for your variable reading enjoyment.

Distance signs litter the interstate.

The next pedestrian bridge.

This is another bridge that just seems to end in mid-air.

The Orchard station is at the west end of the pedestrian bridge.

A heads-up for all the flying public, complete with a bubble shield.

Still flying along at (a little above) the posted speed limit.
