Roadtrippin' Colorado Style

Quick Denver Trippin'

I had a few hours to kill one day before heading to a friend's house for dinner, so I decided to check out the now-complete TREX Project in Denver. Of course, I had to take my camera along.

The Sun! It burnses us!

Heading south down I-25 now. I'm fighting the sun big time, but there's still some pics I want to show you.

198At the Colorado Boulevard interchange.

199Still some median work happening around here.

200The Evans Avenue exit.

201The Evans offramp. Note the switch to asphalt partway up. That's a bridge...

202... over the light rail lines, which are rejoining the interstate ROW after taking a side trip.

203Directly under Evans Avenue. I like how the light rail lines are hidden under the bridgework.

204Distance sign standing guard while exiting the trench after Evans.

205The light rail lines are so close to the edge of the interstate here that street-level signs had to go up on poles and hang over the shoulder.

206Approaching Yale Avenue.

207The Yale Station in all its glory.

208Distance shot from the Yale Avenue bridge.

211The Hampden exit starts as a two lane offramp but quickly expands.

213The Hampden Avenue station is right against the interstate.

214Another high sign sighting.

216Coming up on the 225/25 interchange.

217Let's head north on 225 for a bit: TREX modified a bit of this interstate, too.

218Coming down the flyover from SB 25 to NB 225.

219Interesting that crews left the original sign gantry and signs when everything else around it changed.

220We're now joining the offramp to NB 25. I guess this means this is where NB 225 officially BEGIN!s.

221If I remember correctly, there used to be an exit right here. It was combined in the construction. If I don't remember correctly, I wonder what I was on then and if I could get more.

222Ack! That's a bubble shield!

223Nice urban diamond configuration here.

224I like how the light rail lines straddle the bridge supports.

225The first station on the 225 spur of the light rail lines.

226Interesting cement configuration due to a bridge and a dip in the land.

227The end of the light rail tracks.

228Closer look at the end of the line.

229Now looking at the end of the tracks from the southbound lanes. This is also where 225 gains lane 3.

230A shot of the Parker station. There's a freakin' huge parking garage to the right of this pic.

231More height differences due to bridgework.

232I'd hate to see what will happen when 225 needs to be widened again.

233Southbound 225 after Parker Road.

234225 dips into the Cherry Creek Basin (that's it's dam on the left) leading to a great distance shot.

235Electrical station?

237Crews left this sign in its original installation point on the bridge.

238Pedestrian bridge over the southbound lanes. This station will be little-used until there's some more development in this area.

241Southbound 225 loses it's third lane before hitting 25. I thought the third lane was supposed to go to the 25 interchange. Interesting.

243The light rail lines start to climb away from 225.

244Another power substation that's staffed, apparaently.

245Coming up on the ramps to 25. I like how the power pole for the light rail got a place on the extension of the bridge support.

246Another case of old sign bridge and sign being surrounded by newness.

247The split of the road to NB or SB 25. The END! of 225.

2482 line VMS to alert to conditions in the tunnel ahead.

249That's the smallest state highway shield I've ever seen on a LGS.

250Flyover ramps everywhere!
