random pictures, page 3
While in my wanderings, I take pictures. This is a given, since I have a site dedicated to pictures in and around Colorado Springs, CO. Well, sometimes I take pictures that don't fit into a specific category that I have developed here on r-dub.us. When that happens, I will drop them here. Don't expect any order to these pictures, other than the fact that they're put up pretty much in cronological order. Happy surfing!
Randomness for everyone!
This is a typical shot of SH 94. Not one specific section of the highway, but the entire thing. Whee!
There's not even any towns per se on the entire stretch of 94. The new installations just mention the junction of SH 71. The old distance signs called the 94/71 junction Punkin Center.
Just after Rush (you didn't blink, did you?), we're shown the distances again. Wildhorse is even smaller than Rush. In fact, I think all that's there is someone's home.
Back in Colorado Springs (I told you this was a random mix) at the corner of Fillmore and El Paso. I love the arrows on the mast-arm arrow signs.
In early November 2005, Colorado Springs was hit with a windstorm where the winds were hurricane strength. (71 mph) This was a typical scene throughout town for the next week.
Colorado Springs has a tendency to change names of the streets at random times. This is one example of this.
As a general rule, Colorado Springs does not have a true east-to-west route inside the core city. Unless you count Uintah and Palmer Park Streets. This is Uintah. Obviuosly it's not designed for that much traffic. Oh, and that jeep is parked illegally.
Still on Uintah. Originally this road was striped as three lanes: two eastbound and one westbound. This road is so narrow, folks with the "dualie" trucks were trimming paint off adjoining vehicles. So it got restriped. Except for the turn lanes, that is.
Another shot of a road changing names. Usually, we're not told when the road changes names while we're on it: I guess someone was being nice here.
On Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. This poor bridge needs some work. Unfortunately, the city's idea of fixing this style of bridge is to just fill in the holes, leaving one solid piece of cement. (Look at the end of the bridge)
This is on US 24 heading west at the interchange with Business US 24. Lookie that rock cut to accomodate the merge lane. When you're on the merge lane, it feels like you're going to run into the wall.
On US 24 west of Woodland Park. This is a pretty good job of trying to make a rock cut look natural. It doesn't, mind you, but it was a nice try.
I thought this style of bridge design was long gone, but this is a replacement installation of part that got washed away in our last mini-flood.
So there's a funny story here. Originally, the sign had the correct left lane white arrow on it. However, this being Colorado Springs's first dual lane exit, nobody understood the sign. There were so many wrecks here because people thought the middle lane had to exit and veered into the left lane without looking that CDOT came out and removed the arrow. The accidents immediately stopped. That sums up the mentality of the drivers here; what's it like where you're at?
