Colorado State Highway 16
Colorado State Highway 16 is a short route connecting I-25 with US 85 and a little beyond south of Colorado Springs. This is an immensely overcrowded road since it leads to Gate 20 of Fort Carson. With the passing of Referendum C in Colorado's last general election, this road will be receiving a facelift. If you take SH 16 east far enough, you end up on Powers Boulevard. That road is planned to become SH 83 pretty soon. What's unknown at this time is wether SH 16 will be retired when that happens or if there will be a new multiplex here. Stay tooned...
Short but crowded
One of the main problems with SH 16 is that it's a two lane road for the majority of its existence. This is also the only SH 16 reassurance shield headed westbound.
The start to the bridge over US 85 and the adjoining railroad tracks. This is the only mile marker you see, too.
Fort Carson's Gate 20 is at the western terminus of this highway. It also leads to backups that last for a while. This is probably the only place in existance in the U.S. where you can be in a traffic jam for the entire length of a state highway.
You can get more information on SH 16 (and every other highway in the state) on Matt Salek's Site.
